Keep alive: Survival games

It’s time to review the survival games taking advantage of the physical launch of Genesis Alpha One.

Within this genre we can find games with mechanics of crafting, collection of resources, construction of bases, management of the physiological needs of the character, among others. One of the main attractions of this genre (especially if you can enjoy in cooperative) is the freedom of action, longevity and fun that can give you the title. Building a base with your friends, defending it from enemy threats, while looking for the most valuable treasures is a unique experience in this type of games.

“In the near future ravaged by wars, corrupt regimes and devastating pollution, some influential corporations have created the Genesis program as the last attempt to save humanity.

“As the captain of a Genesis starship, you enter uncharted space in the ultimate mission. Build and manage a spaceship, collect resources, deal with terrifying extraterrestrial invasions, clone creatures, and explore a vast randomly generated universe.”

The hallmark of Genesis Alpha One is that death is permanent, so we will have to think very carefully about our decisions. Effectively manage our base and keep crew members alive will be vital in overcoming our goal.

We Happy Few

  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and Pc

We Happy Few is a first-person survival game set in a fictional Britain in the 1960s. Inspired by novels like “A Happy World”, we’ll walk the strange streets of Wellington Wells.

We live in a crazy city where smiling and being happy is the only way to survive. The inhabitants of this eccentric place are addicted to a drug called “Joy”. This drug causes them to see the world in an idyllic way and not as the grim and dismal city that it is in reality.

And lost in this world, we have to manage looking for resources to crafting objects and improvements that allow us to survive this adventure. The game has an artistic design reminiscent of works like Bioshock.

  • Platforms: Xbox One

It’s a game that mixes survival with small-scale Battle Royale.

In the game we will have our own base where we will be able to store or crafting objects, to part to personalize our character. On the other hand, from the camp we will have to select different incursions where to look for weapons and resources (Something similar in This War of Mine).

In these raids, we are paired with other players who want to collect objects in the same area, so the clashes are assured. Our goal will be to get as many resources as possible and get out of the area to store them in our camp.

Fade to Silence

  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and Pc

THQ Nordic and Black Forest Games present their proposal to the survival genre with Fade to Silence. This game seeks the experience of solitary survival, in which we play Ash, an ancient leader tormented.

Our role in the story will be to survive in a cold post-apocalyptic world in which we will have to interact with secondary characters to help us in our adventure.

The game has a system of crafting, collection, construction of shelters among other playable aspects of the genre. They also wanted to emphasize the system of melee combat, making it deeper and adapting it to the type of weapons…
